Foundation of Light History
Founders Mabel DeMotte Beggs and Kate and John Payne became interested in aspects of Ancient Wisdom and started a meditation and healing group in the Payne's house on Cayuga Heights Road. In 1974 they moved their activities to the schoolhouse donated by Mabel Beggs about 1970. They incorporated as "The Foundation of Light" in 1974. In the 1990's , Mabel donated the land, an ancient power center, where the main building of the Foundation was completed in 2000. Since 1840, the corner (Ellis Hollow Road and Turkey Hill Road) of the original farmland was distributed after the Revolutionary War as a military tract and has always been used for public service no matter who owned it. That continues to be the principal purpose of its users. |
Our Purpose
The Foundation of Light is a free church, a spiritual center for meditation, healing and study. Our purpose is to promote spiritual understanding and practice as found in all great religions in accordance with Cosmic Law. This includes the study and practice of meditation, the study of less understood regions of human potential, research into spiritual healing, investigation into the influence of natural foods on physical well-being and spiritual development, and the development of individual creativity in art, music and literature.
